Hailing from Puerto Rico, Benjie Ayala serves as Pitmaster for Pinehurst Brewing Co. and is bringing bold hometown flavor to the Pinehurst Barbecue Festival. Known for his standout beef ribs, Ayala brings more than 20 years of culinary experience across the Sandhills, including time as a sous chef at Pine Needles Resort and Country Club and at Southern Pines favorite Chapman’s before stepping into his role at Pinehurst Brewing Co.

Returning to the Pitmaster Invitational, Ayala is eager to build on his experience and showcase what he’s been working on.

“I’m proud to be included in the 2026 Pitmaster class,” he said. “There’s a lot of talent here, and I’m bringing some new ideas and flavors this year that I think people are really going to enjoy.”
